Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can we bring our own bikes?
A. Yes, but we will not be transporting them for you. If you bring your own, you will be required to carry them to the bike section start line, two hours before the start of the race.

Q. Are Biking helmets and Climbing helmets mandatory?
A. Yes. We can provide you with both if you don’t have one or both, but it has to be indicated in your application form.

Q. I’ve never participated in an adventure race. What should I expect?
A. After the Race Briefing, you will receive all information about the race course and GPS coordinates for all CPs. You will have some time to go over the map(s) and plan your race before the start. Competitors are not allowed to visit CPs before the race and will be disqualified. This is not a marked course. There will be checkpoints that you will need to find. Good planning and smart racing are important to a successful adventure race. It’s usually not the fastest team that wins an adventure race but a team that race smart.

Q. Is there a minimum age for this event?
A. No. But…anyone under 18 must present a signed ‘No Objection Statement’ by the parent or guardian. Please be sure that everyone on your team is comfortable with: mountain biking on trails and roadways, swimming and of course comfortable with the possibility of being in the water without life jackets or floating devices. However, lifeguards will be provided at water section and ambulance team for other sections.

Q. I’d like to do this race but I don’t have a teammate. How can I find teammates?
A. If you can get on Facebook, post a message there. You can also email us and we’ll try to help you out.

Q. What should I bring to the Check In / registration area?
A. All teammates must be together at the registration table. We plan to have all the necessary forms and waivers available on our website for you to print out and complete before you get to the registration table. You will also need to bring your Personal ID or Passport. ‘No Objection Statement’ and ‘Liability forms” will also be available to print and fill out ahead of time for under age competitors.

Q. Will we need to plot points onto maps?
A. No, points will be pre plotted for you. Bring highlighters, pens, rulers, etc to mark your maps.

Q. Can family and friends join Prize giving ceremony and post race party?
A. Yes.

Q. How is the winner determined in an adventure race?
A. All races have different courses variations and different ways to determine winners. We are designing a course that will have only mandatory checkpoints (CP’s) . To be an official finisher, all the checkpoints must be punched within the race cutoff time. The team with the fastest time within the race cutoff time and no penalty points will be declared the winner. If there is a tie, the team that finished with no penalties and with lower bib number will be declared the winner.

Q. I can’t decide if I should do the Pro course or Lite course race. Any suggestions?
A. If you don’t put a lot of time into biking, running/walking or swimming and are new to the sport, then the or Lite course is probably for you. If you are someone who can ride, run/walk or swim for a few continuous hours, then consider the Pro course.

Q. Is there a refund policy?
A. Yes. We will refund 50% of the entry fee up until August 20th 2012.
